The J.W. Mitchell Hall of Excellence
The purpose of this award is to recognize faculty, staff members and alumni who have contributed to the success, tradition, integrity, development and identity of J.W. Mitchell High School in a remarkable manner.
School History
J.W. Mitchell High School opened it’s doors in the year 2000 to students grades 9-11. Our school began under the direction of Ms. Tina Tiede. Students who came to the newly formed school were students from Gulf and River Ridge High Schools who were rezoned to relieve over-crowding and serve the newly developing Trinity area. The first senior class to attend J.W. Mitchell graduated at the conclusion of the 2001-2002 school year.
Subsequent principals included Mr. Ric Mellin, Mr. Jim Michaels, and Ms. Jessica Schultz, our current principal who took on the role in 2016. Over that time, our school has developed an identity around our commitment to being Empowered by Community, Driven by Integrity and Dedicated to Excellence.
Over the years enrollment has swelled as a result of development in the surrounding area and the consistent academic achievement of students and alumni. J.W. Mitchell High School now serves roughly 2,200 students and boasts a graduation rate exceeding 97% annually.
The school is known for it’s outstanding academic achievement in AP and Dual Enrollment courses, competitive athletic department, and its nationally recognized band and yearbook programs. Alumni students have gone on to pursue degrees at prestigious universities across the country, earning millions of dollars in scholarships annually.
Our outstanding faculty has shaped the identity of the school and created a place where a dedication to exceptional student experience is at the forefront. As we build for the next 25 years, we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence.
