The entire PCSD Wireless Communication Device Policy can be found online at: pasco.k12.fl.us and should be read by all.

The Wireless Communication Devices (WCD) that are prohibited include but are not limited to: Cell Phones, iPods, iPads, or Tablets (not issued by a teacher), Laptops (not issued by a teacher), Earphones, Headphones, Headsets, Air Pods, Apple Watch, Fit Bit, or any device that can capture images, record, or transmit messages.

Students shall have no expectation of confidentiality with respect to their use of WCDs on school property. Students are personally and solely responsible for the care and security of their WCDs. The Board assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, damage to, misuse, or unauthorized use of WCDs brought onto its property, or the unauthorized use of such devices.

When are wireless communication devices (WCD) prohibited?

  • The use of any WCD in classrooms for non-education related communications or purposes is prohibited.
  • The use of any WCD to capture or record/transmit pictures of others without their consent is prohibited.
  • The use of any WCD in locker rooms, shower facilities, or restrooms is prohibited.
  • The use of any WCD to capture or record/transmit/receive test information constituting fraud, theft, or academic dishonesty is prohibited.
  • Students will not be permitted to take the WCD with them when leaving the classroom during instructional time for any reason or destination.

What should I do with my Wireless Communication Device (WCD) during the day?

  • WCDs must remain on silent mode.
  • WCDs must be completely out of view or be placed in the classroom storage area or bookbag/backpack during instructional time.

When can I use a wireless communication device (WCD)?

  • Lunch, before, and after school, passing, after school activities, on the school bus, and when a classroom teacher allows you to use it for instructional activities.

Can a Staff Member confiscate my wireless communication device (WCD)?

  • Yes. and refusing to hand over your WCD is defiance of authority. You will automatically receive a discipline referral and OSS.

Do the disciplinary consequences reset EACH QUARTER?

  • Disciplinary consequences will not reset each quarter.

Consequences for WCD Violations

1st Offense: The student will be given a verbal warning and will be required to put the WCD away. The offense will be documented in EWS.

2nd Offense: The student will be required to surrender the WCD to the front office until the end of the day and a parent will be notified. A student conference will be held. A referral will also be generated documenting the violation of the policy. The student will receive 1 After School Detention.

3rd Offense: The student will be required to surrender the WCD to the front office until the end of the day and a parent will be notified. A referral will also be generated documenting the violation of the policy. The student will receive 1 Saturday School.

4th Offense: The student will be required to surrender the WCD to the front office until the end of the day and a parent will be notified. A referral will also be generated documenting the violation of the policy. The student will receive 3 Saturday Schools.

5th Offense: The student will be required to surrender the WCD to a staff member and a parent will be notified. A referral will also be generated. The student will receive 3 days of OSS.

Parents will be given the opportunity to pick up the device to avoid storage of the WCD at school.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE ANY ASSIGNED DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCE MAY RESULT IN A REFERRAL AND OSS.
