Where Mustangs Learn to Run!
Mustang U Orientation – Class of 2021
On Tuesday, August 2nd, all freshman students will converge at J.W. Mitchell High School for the 7th Annual 9th Grade Summer Orientation from 8AM-3:30PM. This orientation day is exclusively for the Freshman Class of 2020. We’ll focus on easing the transition from middle school to high school, acclimating to the new surroundings, meeting faculty, and providing you with a chance to see old friends while meeting new people. A large portion of our Mitchell High School staff will be on hand to lead students through orientation sessions. We will also have our Mustang University leadership students known as “Wranglers” (10th-12th graders) serving as orientation leaders and peer mentors.
The summer orientation will focus on how to be a successful Mitchell student! You’ll see what it is truly like to be in high school by talking to upperclassmen, learning about your classes, hearing about homecoming, navigating the campus, getting a bus pass, utilizing the media center, and learning how to get to be organized and get to your classes on time. We will also focus on policies and procedures such as dress code, how and when to access the school resource officer, and how to understand your GPA. You’ll even have a chance to hear about all the clubs, sports, and activities Mitchell has to offer. We will introduce topics such as writing in high school, planning for academic success, and using online resources.
The main focus of our orientation is to build the foundation for a relationship between you, your peers, and your new school.
All orientation activities are free to incoming freshmen including breakfast and lunch. Students who attend the full day of orientation on August 2nd will receive their schedules that afternoon. During the hours of 1:30-3:30PM, 9th grade students who attended the orientation may pick up their schedules, pay fees, purchase lockers, PE uniforms, yearbooks, get supply lists, tour the campus, etc. Students not in attendance on August 2nd will receive their schedules on the first day of school.
As we get closer to the 2nd, we will post information again and update information, if necessary. So please continue to visit our website, follow us on Twitter, and listen to the School Connects calls we make.
For AP Human Geography, visit the AP Summer Work page. There is no other summer work for incoming 9th graders. Although there are no formal assignments, we encourage you to read something for pleasure this summer! Need ideas?
